Toucans

The Toucans class caters for children in the Primary Two year. This year we have experienced curriculum activities through a wide variety of topics such as Friendship, Celebrations, Winter, Animals, The Outdoor World and will end our fun filled year investigating Holidays.

We are a small class and a small team. Mrs. Collins is our teacher,  and the dream team of assistants are Amy (5 days), Ann (2 days) and Michelle (3days).

Our class is a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child is supported to reach their potential at their own pace. We value the uniqueness of each pupil and celebrate their individual strengths, interests and ways of learning. At the heart of our class is a strong sense of community and friendship. We encourage children to build positive relationships with their peers helping them develop important social skills such as sharing, turn-taking, empathy and communication. We also put a strong emphasis on the preventative curriculum and developing emotional intelligence so we can identify and share how we feel.

Through group activities and co-operative play we create opportunities for children to connect, grow in confidence and experience the joy of both belonging and succeeding. We place a strong focus on self-regulation strategies helping children to both understand and manage their emotions in healthy and effective ways. Calming techniques, visual supports, sensory tools or guided reflection help empower children with skills that help them feel safe, secure and in control, to ultimately learn.

Our lessons are filled with creativity, fun and imagination. We believe learning should be an enjoyable experience so we incorporate a wide-range of hands on activities, games, sensory play and real-life experiences that make learning exciting and meaningful. We open doors to new skills and knowledge every day, from art and music to life skills.

Safety and well-being are our top priorities and we have created a predictable and caring environment where children feel secure and valued. With clear routines, tailored support and a team that truly listens, we ensure each member of the class feels seen, heard and respected. Every small step is a big achievement and every day is an opportunity to grow.

Together we build a foundation of confidence, curiosity and joy that supports children not just in class, but in life.
